The hamlet of Bethesda was clustered around the four corners of Warden Avenue and Bethesda Road. Bethesda was known for many outdoor religious camp meetings held by the local Mennonite and Methodist populations. The Bethesda and Stouffville Telephone Association operated here from 1904 to 1960 when the Bell Telephone Company purchased it. Bethesda had a functioning post office from 1874 to 1924.
