Joyous Light Candles

Share

Holy Theotokos Convent is a small community of Orthodox nuns that was founded in the rolling hills of Cedar Valley in the spring of 2001.

Following a monastic life of prayer and labour, they strive to be self-sufficient. Their handicraft and business – Joyous Light Candles – features the production of 100% pure beeswax candles, a full line of baptism and wedding items, homemade jams & jellies, all-natural beauty products, gift baskets and seasonal baked products.

The nuns of Holy Theotokos Convent are operating a serious business with a witty logo – Nun Better – and online shopping capability. They process nearly 20,000 pounds of bees wax a year, which is purchased from beekeepers in Ontario and across Canada. Waste products from candle making – the extra wicks and wax – are made into fire-starter logs, which are also sold.

The Joyous Light Candles shop is open daily from 11am to 7pm. Visitors are welcome. The business supports the real mission of this convent – worship and prayer, outreach and community service.

Additionally, the nuns maintain their 20 acre property, from snowplowing to grass cutting. As a registered charity, they accept donations and the help of volunteers.
