Stouffville Firehouse Subs had a visit from Fire Chief Bill Snowball and members of his team on January 14. Luckily for the local franchisees – Huan Dang, Warren Luong, and Uyen Tran – it was for a grant presentation, rather than a fire.

Stouffville Fire Department received a grant for $33,679 from Firehouse Subs. The money will fund a digital fire extinguisher training system. The system will allow the department to train firefighting techniques within the fire station and will be incorporated into public education initiatives, benefiting the community.

In 2015, the company opened its first Firehouse Subs restaurant in Canada, and the registered charity, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada, was born. Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has granted more than $847,000 to hometown heroes in Canada.

Franchisee Warren Luong was an Auto mechanic for 25 years but had to retire due to a shoulder injury. His friend Huan and Mey Ngo, which are now his partners, brought him and his wife to try Firehouse Subs for the very first time, they were hooked to the great tasting subs, outstanding restaurant atmosphere and exceptional customer service. 

After learning how the foundation gives back to the community, they decided to buy-in. They opened their first location in Markham in 2018. When George Hero and Alex Gerzon (the Canadian Firehouse Reps) said there is a location opportunity at Whitchurch-Stouffville, Huan and Warren went to visit the Town of Stouffville. They saw that the city is growing rapidly as a community with different multicultural and a lot business development. 

“We wanted to be a part of the growing community and great business opportunity which lead us to choose Stouffville to be our second location. April 29, 2019, Firehouse Subs Stouffville officially open to the community with an overwhelming turn out on the opening day. Just under one year of our opening, the local Fire and Emergency Service department was approved $33000 to buy lifesaving equipment thanks to the generosity of the community,” concluded Warren.
